QUTV FILM FINANCE CONFERENCE

The QUTV Film Finance Conference is an industry-focused initiative designed to bridge the gap between film financing and production by connecting students with professionals across film, business, and media. Developed in partnership with Queen’s Television and Branded to Film, the conference creates a space for participants to engage directly with the financial and strategic side of the film industry.

The conference delivers a blend of professional insight and hands-on learning. A featured speaker panel brings together industry voices to share expertise on film finance, deal-making, and market dynamics. Complementing this is an immersive case competition that challenges participants to apply these concepts in a simulated, real-world scenario.

The case experience is structured as a two-part exploration of project financing and sales, distribution, and go-to-market strategy. Working in teams, participants navigate a fictional industry challenge, identifying key bottlenecks and developing solutions through research, decision-making frameworks, and basic financial modeling. Each team is supported by an industry advisor who provides guidance, context, and clarity on professional practices and terminology.

The program culminates in a high-stakes pitch, where teams present their strategies to a panel of professionals for evaluation and feedback; offering a practical opportunity to develop communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
As part of QUTV’s broader “Create Boldly, Connect Locally, Impact Globally” initiative, the conference emphasizes collaboration, experiential learning, and meaningful engagement between emerging talent and the industry, contributing to a stronger and more connected creative ecosystem.
